Is this a thing? The only one I've ever seen is through Mypoints and it just gives you some free coupons. In 3 weeks we will be moving and by a Costco again - are there any other ways to score a discounted membership?

They don't usually offer discounted memberships. The best I've seen is they'll offer you a special coupon book that has a bunch of freebies. (This is not the normal monthly coupon book with dollar off coupons).
Usually the freebie items are free batteries, rotisserie chicken, free case of bottled water. I think they will sometimes give away this coupon book when you apply for their Amex (which by the way, I highly recommend unless you have a card that does better on these categories already: 3% cashback on gas, 2% on restaurants/travel, 1% everywhere else).

If you know someone with a Costco card, they can refer you and get a $10 gift Costco gift card (can't remember the amount for certain) for each of you. It may have been a special promo at the time. Not sure if it's still available.

Do you know someone with a costco membership? If you don't plan to buy a lot of stuff there, give them cash, they can buy you gift cards and you can use them in the store without a membership.

If you don't want to buy a membership buy a gift card. They have to let you in to use it, and you can pay the difference with debit.

@Mirage: If I'm not mistaken, you have to be a member to buy a gift card.
However, that is a good way to get into the store. Have someone buy you a few $25 gift cards. You can use each one to enter the store to make a shopping trip. Pay with just 1 of the cards then use your debit card/cash/Amex to pay for the balance.

@sunny. In Ontario you can buy costco cards outside of Costco. I've seen them at grocery stores and shoppers drug mart

This doesn't help you now, but when it came time for us to renew our membership we kept putting it off because we weren't using it at the moment. A couple weeks after our membership expired they offered us a $15 gift card if we renewed. That coupled with the money we made back with our executive membership made the renewal a better deal. Just for future reference!
