It doesn't have to be redeemed until 12/15, and if you forget or change your mind, then they will refund your money after that date. Ours isn't open yet, but friends with a nearby Costco have said that they will even let you add on the executive membership. Win-win!

@Boogs: on Hip2Save, ppl who had memberships before just made their SO the main account holder so they could take advantage of the offer, you can still get your own card as the second cardholder

There's no appreciable difference between Costco and BJs, right? We currently have a BJs membership (I get a good deal through work), but Costco is closer...with this deal, it nearly works out to 'free', right? (I wouldn't use the identity protection)

@StrawberryBee: We used to belong to both. Costco can have better deals, but the selection is slimmer. For instance, BJ's will have 5 or 6 brands of shampoo while Costco will have 2, maybe 3, 4 tops at one point. So BJ's is like shopping in a regular supermarket in bulk, while Costco is a bit more limited. So if you're brand loyal to certain things, you won't be able to shop at Costco. That being said, I'm always happy with the Costco brand stuff so we barely do any shopping outside of Costco! They have the best deals on clothes too.

@StrawberryBee: I like Costco's pharmacy and photo services. For food I think they are similar, though Costco's bakery is much better, in my opinion.

@StrawberryBee: ooh yes, we use Costco photo for EVERYTHING. Including photo books and calendars. Our Costco is building a gas station right now which we're super excited about!! And we've used the inkjet cartridge refill too... such a money saver. We stack empty cartridges by the door to take with us whenever we make a Costco run.

BJs gas is often a good value, but we have to pair it with a trip there because it makes no sense to drive 6 miles just for gas lol. Costco is 1.3 miles away!

I've been debating this deal. I have another offer for Executive membership ($110) with a bonus 2 months and $20 gift card and cookbook. It's just a matter of deciding if Executive is worth it to us.

@MamaG: You can swing by the membership counter and they can run your last year of purchases to see if it's worth it to upgrade to Executive. One of the members on HB said that one year they didn't make enough rewards to pay for the cost of a normal membership-- all they had to do was go to the membership counter and they were given the difference. So there's nothing to lose!
