Yes it usually is but you should look on Wednesdays to book your flights and you should fly on a weekend and return on a tuesday. since everyone is always flying during the week there is more of a demand and people usually will come home on a sunday and monday so that drives the prices up

it's a myth.
back in the day when things were manual, it was cheapest to buy on Tuesday.
Now there are complex revenue management algorithms that are constantly working to adjust pricing based on inventory, demand, and sales at other carriers.
bumnylove is right that it's often cheaper to fly midweek.

While planning our trip to Maui, DH determined that flights were cheapest on Wednesdays. We saved a good chunk of money by flying midweek.
