Many companies and services are like this. Auto enroll and you have to opt out. My cable provider is always trying to give me 3 month trials of HD channels. I always decline because I will not remember to stop it later.

@birdofafeather: Their customer service rep was very helpful (and very nice). He said, "This happens all the time!".

I would say, they were clear once I read back through my confirmation email. However, I didn't see anything standing out at me when I placed the order, because I thought I was simply getting a pack of their products to try. I would have noticed, "You will be charged $115 each month by clicking OK". It was all in the same size print as the rest of the email. Shame on me for not reading it all the way, but I didn't feel I needed to.

Again, I think it's just about meeting expectations. I was excited to TRY their product, and I thought that's what I was signing up for.

I just think they could have an opt-in button, and a longer trial period. 7 days is short. A reminder email (to cancel) would have been helpful too. Instead, I think they count on people signing up for the free packs, not paying attention, and then getting stuck with a big shipment of items & a large fee.

I thought they were very clear that it automatically signed you up and gave me several reminders that my stuff would ship soon after. I called and canceled with no issues and even had a good convo with their rep about options in the future. Sorry you didn't have the same experience but I don't find their practices deceitful.

@petunia354: I think you have 7 days from the ship date (or delivery day). Either way, our baby isn't even here yet, so I have NO idea if we'll like them or not.

@ms.janedoe: You're right. In my email, it TOTALLY says, "thank you for your order ... blah blah blah ... You've now been subscribed to our monthly service, and you have 7 days to cancel". Like I said, shame on me for not reading, but really, they should have a button to opt in to their services, instead of sneaking it into a 'free' promotion. I just think it feels sneaky.

I should add, they cancelled my subscription when I called, but the order had shipped, so they have to wait for it to be returned to them before my money is refunded.

Not trying to play devil's advocate, but IIRC (I checked it out awhile ago, too), it does say that you only have a few days to cancel once you get 'em at the bottom of the free trial page...

If you haven't received them yet though, you might be able to go back and see what they can do!

@petunia354: THat sounds vaguely familiar...not being able to see them before you decide. It always turns me off to a subscription site if the trial period is really short before they renew.

115??? holy cow thats a huge bill. I know you have to call them to cancel but $115? did they subscribe you to both packages?

you just reminded me that I need to cancel my subscriptions

Good to know, I just ordered a trial pack of the diapers last week. It sucks that they charge you so quickly. I don't want to cancel the subscription until I receive the diapers (should get them this Friday) and decide if we like/don't like them.

I knew that but I didn't realize it was so soon. I also wondered why it was $5 for shipping, seems sort of high to me but I guess it is what it is. They sell the diapers at whole foods now if anyone wants to just go buy a pack. We're just sticking with pampers/target.

I'm not sure this is on the right board, but I wanted to share ...

Last week, I was checking my bank balance, and noticed a $115.00 charge from The Honest Company (Jessica Alba's company for more natural home/baby care products). The week before, I had placed an order for the sample pack of diapers & body care for $5.00 (for the shipping). I didn't realize that this also signs you up for their monthly service (for $115).

Shame on me for not reading the entirity of the confirmation email (that told me I could cancel), but when I was signing up for 2 free sample packs, I assumed that's what I was signing up for.

This is just a little PSA. I've seen the coupon/ad pop up on FB a few times this week, and wanted to share. Be sure, if you get the sample pack, that you go back later that day & cancel the full subscription. Otherwise, you'll be charged a ridiculous amount for diapers you don't want!
