I use a lot of the tips/tricks mentioned above. I also have one other trick I use when I'm looking for the best price on a very specific item. I'll run a google image search for it, then mouseover the returns and open any results that are for online retailers in a new tab. Then I scan across however many tabs that is for the best price/shipping.

Our consignment store has been great for this. I take in old stuff we don't use anymore and they give me a 10% bonus if I take store credit instead of cash. We also watch Craigslist and our local classifieds for good deals. Sometimes people will trade instead of taking cash for an item, which is nice!

@NaturallyCathy: thanks for posting this. I was really curious too! I'm amazed at the ladies here who are excellent at scoping out deals. I don't know if I have the time/energy for it but I am trying to get better! I do use the extra care card at cvs and I'm doing swagbucks which will help a lot with our tight Christmas budget this year!
How old are the lO's you are shopping for? Maybe add some Diy gifts to the mix? Also, do you have "rewards" on anything, like a credit or debit card? We have it through our bank and a credit card and both have some toys and books as options!

I check Slick Deals and occasionally a few coupon blogs. I'm not on the ball as much as some other ladies though! I usually check Slick Deals to see if someone has a better discount code that they found than I did. I have saved an extra $5-10 many times this way when I was just about to check out.

I get emails from Woot, Baby Steals, Frugal coupon Living, eversave, zulily, groupon, living social, and a bunch of others. But honestly, email may not get my attention because I get so many emails.

What gets my attention is following Frugal Coupon Living, frugal Living Northwest, pinching pennies.com, coupon divas, coupon mom, money saving mom, deal seeking mom, queen bee coupons on Facebook. I always check Facebook a few times a day. It's a great way to multitask. See what my friends or family are doing and oh, find a great deal!

For cloth diapers, I follow diaper shops, Kelly's closet, obbs and Lala, diaper junction,

Pixel of ink is a site for free Ebooks or deals. They send out emails and have Facebook on Pinterest.

Speaking of Pinterest, some of the above deal sites have Pinterest so they post pictures of deals. I'm a visual person so it can stand out to me when I see things pop up on Pinterest.

So my suggestion is to think to yourself which kind of social media do you check often? Which will get your attention? Do you read every email? I don't. So email is not good for me. It might be good for you. Maybe Facebook or Pinterest. Maybe Instagram or twitter.

Then use those sites to find sites to follow. Put in keywords like deals, coupon and voila you are now notified when a deal shows up.

ETA- then there's apps you can get for in store purchases or online, Jo Anne's, Michaels. Target, target cartwheel, groupon, living social, zulily and woot star.

I get emails from the site the Clymb which is a deal site for sports related offers.

Oh, I forgot. I follow blogs on Feedly, too. Like cheap stake Kate and some I mentioned above.

For grocery shopping, I downloaded app from the stores I visit often, Costco, Safeway, albertsons, Fred Meyers.

But there's this app called Favado! It takes the deals from grocery stores and compares them to other stores in the area. Favado has popular deal bloggers on their team to input these deals. I use that app all.the.time to find certain food items that I only buy at a low price. For instance, I only buy cases of soda when they are less than $4. If the DH is asking me to get soda. I get on that app and it look up who has the best deal.

For Internet shopping, there's a site that will show you amazon pricing for items. It will give you a better idea on if, you are getting the right price. Also, if you want something but can wait to buy it. Add it to your cart and amazon will tell you when the item price increases or decreases.

I do use ebates and retail me not to find promo codes. I always forget about slick deals. Need to download the app.

I just downloaded a new app called saviry. It's a deal app. Compiles deals from other sites. I apparently had it downloaded at some point in the past. It's getting good app reviews. Ok, I believe slick deals are uploaded to this app. This is the first app that shows up when I searched 'slick deals' in the App Store.

Oh, one thing. Text alerts! I have unlimited texting so I get deals texted to me Starbucks, redbox, Costco, michaels, AMC,

Oh for the zulily app, you can mark stores and brand names as favorites and they will send you an email or an app alert telling you when there is an upcoming deal.

I'm neither a couponer nor a mom, but I never order anything online without checking eBates first — originally a cheap travel tip from a college friend who spends every weekend flying all over the country. I then take my rebate in the form of an Amazon gift card, which adds another $1 or so to what I get back.

Do you have an Essex Bargain Hunt near you? I hear really good things about them.

@jhd: those are my two favorites! moneysavingmom is also great! :)

i'd like to save i'm frugal simply because i like it (i do get a thrill out of saving money), but the reality is we have little disposable income & that forces me to make the most of it. i'd like to think i do pretty well with that ;) i follow savings blogs and slickdeals, i coupon and shop off clearance racks, i buy used books and shop amazon warehouse or nobetterdeal for open box items. i wait for opportunities to double (or triple) dip on offers, i'll wait for something to go on sale and use a manufacturer's coupon and a store coupon or get rewards back- things like extra care bucks from CVS, or ebates or swagbucks.

I usually check here or if someone posts on facebook about one!

I also check coupons.target.com and coupons.com pretty regularly and print any that I may want, even if I'm not sure yet. Then I watch sales. Target lets you use a target coupon and a manufacturer's coupon per item - then I add my 5% off to that from using my redcard. They'll also price match (including amazon, so long as the item is sold BY amazon). And don't forget Cartwheel!

Babies R Us (and I'm assuming TRU?) allow a manufacturer coupon per item ON TOP of any existing sale - but, not a babies r us or toys r us coupon on top of a sale. also, today I was able to combine a 20% off a baby item coupon WITH a $10 off your total purchase coupon (at babies r us).

I keep a running list in my head of what items I would like to get when they go on sale. Even if you score something on sale, keep the receipt and an eye out for additional sales off during the price adjustment or return period. This is especially true at Baby Gap, I've found!

For toys/gear, I keep an eye out on Amazon and/or Google items online. If I want something immediately from a B&M store, Target, BRU, Nordstrom, etc. - most will price-match!

Someone here mentioned the site CamelCamel for a FP toy and I thought that was pretty cool! It will notify you when the item you're looking for is at the price you want it for!

I'm not that good at couponing, but I am good at keeping my eyes peeled for deals and don't mind hoarding items until they will be used, as opposed to paying more for something when we finally need it.

Where do you start? I'm assuming you figure out what item you want to buy first then, what, watch and wait? Do you look for certain emails from certain stores? Coupons in your newspaper or mail ads?

I ask because I know a few ladies have gotten some rather glorious deals - especially on the Fisher Price items - and I feel like I am somehow missing the necessary gene to snag such deals myself. We have a strict budget for the kiddies this year - $25 each is to be spent on them - so I'd like to make it stretch as much as I'm able.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Tips? :)
