Do you have Frye Boots? Love 'em/Hate 'em? Worth the cost?
I'm considering asking Santa to bring me these.

@MamaMoose: My husband has a pair. I want a pair soooooooooooooo bad.

Hahaha Santa (aka my husband) is not going to appreciate all this positive reinforcement. I sent them to him yesterday and said "I think I want these for Christmas". His response was "I bet you do".

I have my moms vintage fryes and they're beautiful, but soooo heavy!

@winniebee: so jealous!
I pine for Frye boots. Haven't been able to take the plunge and buy them though....

@MamaMoose: Nordstrom has some frye boots for 25-50% off right now on their website. Not sure what styles, but maybe that would be a good incentive for Santa

Okay. I drooled over those boots for 3 years. But I couldn't face the price tag. Finally, my shopaholic mom bullied me into buying them. I wear them so often that I had to get them re-soled after a year (covered by warranty, so free!). I seriously wear these boots all the time. I LOVE them. So much so that I am going to buy them in black this year.
I know they are super expensive, but they'll last forever with proper care and regular re-soling.

I have a pair that I have worn constantly for 3 years now, love them.

I have two pairs. The Jane Stitch in redwood and Shirley Strappy Short in black. I loooove them. They are really comfortable and so worth the price. I wear the Shirley's pretty much every single day. I would definitely buy another pair the next time I am I the market for boots.

@DillonLion: boo we don't have one of those here!! Just regular Nordstrom!
You all have covinced me. I'm going to go to Nordstrom this weekend to try them on.

Love my Frye boots! Don't know how long I've had mine but they've held up so well and fit like no other brand does.

I want some so badly! My coworker thrifted a pair and I've been envious ever since.
@mamamoose: Please report back! I'm willing to brave that traffic for 50% off!

I have those exact ones. Love them and wear them all the time. So comfortable.

@theonewhere: I looked online and they don't seem to be 50% off in there.... but i'll let you know what I find in store!

I've got the Philip Harness boots in cognac. I had considered the ones you are looking at too. They are pricey, but you can definitely feel the quality of the leather. However, I do have other (cheaper) boots that I find to be more comfy .

Gorg!! I love love my fryes. My mom bought me a pair in fits year university (she had a pair she loved as a teen) and I've been wearing them ever since. They are super comfy!

Do it!!
I have three pairs and am eyeing a fourth. They last forever. One pair is over ten years old and still in great shape.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
I have them! They were insanely expensive but I've now had them for 4, almost 5 years. I have easily spent $100 on a pair of shoes that only last one season, so these are worth it. I saddlesoap mine every year to protect them. They are so comfy. I get compliments on them constantly. I have the El Dorados.
@septca, i had NO idea they re-sole them for free!!! Mine are probably due this year!!!
They're definitely one of those high quality items that feels like a huge splurge, but they LAST. I also think it's cool that they used to make boots for soldiers in the Civil War.

Loooove. DS is so awesome and told DH the exact pair I wanted while we were at Nordstrom last haha.

I just got a pair and they are awesome - softest leather ever and SUPER comfortable...I can walk around all day in them and my feet do not hurt one bit and even when it's freezing out my feet are just super comfy - not cold but not hot. I have small feet (size 4.5 women or size 1.5 youth) so I couldn't buy any of the beautiful women's styles BUT the ones I got from the kids section are MUCH cheaper...they're mid calf rather than below the knee but for the price I'm ok that they're not exactly what I want. I love them for the comfort alone...so worth it!

I have a beautiful pair that were my mother's when she was in art school in the 70's! Well worth the price

@MamaMoose: Ones sold by Amazon are 25% off right now with code BFSHOE25 until Nov 30th. I have some birthday money to spend on new boots and I can't decide if I should go for Frye or something cheaper!

@septca: Wow, good to know that resoling is covered by warranty!!
I have the Engineer 12R in dark brown and I love them, I get tons of compliments every time I wear them. I have other boots that I like too and don't necessarily *need* another pair but I always keep my eyes open for a good deal! @mrskc: Good to know about the discount - and I vote for Fryes! You won't regret it!

Do it!! I have the Melissa button in brown and the Veronica slouch in black. They are so well made and so comfy. And I live in FL and can only wear them for maybe 3 months ou of the year and I still think they're worth it.

@MamaMoose: Gorgeous! That's basically my dream boot... so purty I hope Santa brings them for you!
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
ha, i just noticed this thread updated. I just bought some with an amazon GC i had that I couldn't figure out what to use it on. I got the carmen harness short boots and I hope they aren't too tall for me (2.5" heel and I'm 5'11")

I just bought that pair and they are awesome!!! I also have the Lara Short Slouch as my more dress up heeled pair. The leather is so pretty and hearing everyone saying they hold up so well over time is encouraging!
Question on waterproofing. I just bought mink oil as suggested on some forums for weather proofing and keeping leather conditions. What do you gals use?
And good to know about resoling covered by warranty!

I have the Engineer 12R, too. I bought them 4 or 5 years ago and they are completely worth it. They're the only boots I wear and I wear them 3-4 days a week. They pay for themselves, I think, in less money wasted on cheaper shoes over time. At least if you're like me and happy to wear the same shoes over and over (I wear only 3 pairs of shoes in the cold months: my boots, danskos, and toms)
